Internships

In our internship program, we create an environment that is supportive and clinically challenging, with continuous instruction, hands-on experience, and weekly supervision, along with regular multidisciplinary team consultations. Additional learning is achieved through participation in intern seminars that focus on a range of clinical topics and consultations. Branch staff serve as mentors and role models for interns, providing on-site support and feedback as needed. We seek to ensure that our interns have the opportunity to pursue excellent careers in behavioral health.

At THS, our work with clients is based on a strengths-based and harm reduction model, and we strive to ensure our internship program breaks this down for students and teaches them how to work within this mindset.

We produce graduates who are skilled at integrating learned skills and practice for successful entry into the mental health field. Tasks to Develop Skills

  • Carry and manage a caseload w/ co-occurring clients
  • Implement evidenced-based practices including, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Provide Community Resourcing
  • Participate on multi-disciplinary team of social workers, ARNPs, LMFT, PCP, SUDP[T], psychologists, psychiatrists, and other interns
  • Assist in Development of and Co-facilitate Groups
  • Use supervision and consultation to explore professional strengths, limitations, and challenges.
  • Apply strategies of ethical reasoning utilizing standards of professional code of ethics
  • Gain self-awareness to minimize the influence of personal biases and values in working with
  • diverse groups
  • Develop a cultural consciousness in working with diverse people.

  • Utilize conceptual frameworks to guide the processes of assessment, intervention, and evaluation.
