February is here, and with it comes an important and exciting celebration — Black History Month!
This month is all about honoring the incredible achievements and contributions of African Americans throughout U.S. history. Originally launched as Negro History Week by the legendary historian Carter G. Woodson, it’s grown into a month-long celebration, officially recognized by every U.S. president since 1976. It’s a time to spotlight not just pioneers in civil rights, but leaders in industry, politics, science, culture, and so much more.
But Black History Month is more than just a historical reflection—it’s a chance for us to celebrate the incredible legacy and impact of the African American community, including right here at Therapeutic Health Services. Since our beginnings in the early 1970s, we’ve been honored to serve the African American community with culturally relevant and compassionate behavioral health care. We recognize that this work wouldn’t be possible without the tireless dedication and resilience of our staff members, who bring not only their expertise but also their lived experiences and deep connections to the people in our communities. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to our mission and the patients we serve!
As we celebrate Black History Month, we also want to take a moment to reflect on our commitment to equity. As an organization, we remain dedicated to fostering a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for everyone—no matter their race, religion, gender, identity, ability or background. We are proud of our diverse team and the unique perspectives that make us stronger together.
We also want to take this time to remind everyone that at THS, everyone belongs—no matter where you’re from, who you love, or how you identify you are welcome here.
Let’s continue to celebrate each other and the richness of our history as we move through February and beyond!
