Music Icon, Tragic Loss

Layne was the lead singer of the legendary rock band Alice In Chains. Tragically, Layne lost his life in 2002 due to complications brought on by the use of prescription and illegal drugs, primarily heroin.

How It All Started

Shortly after Layne’s death, his parents, Nancy McCallum and Phil Staley, worked with THS to create the Layne Staley Memorial Fund. Nancy maintains that “Addicts in recovery are the light of the world.”

The Fund’s Purpose

Through THS, the fund provides hope, education, support, and treatment funds for heroin recovery in the Seattle community. Most recently, the memorial fund was used to help pay for the Layne Staley Mobile Medical Unit.

Mobile Medical Unit

Launched in 2026, the LSMMU provides medication for opioid use disorder directly to people in need living in Tiny Home Villages. The LSMMU is one of the most outstanding expressions of Layne’s legacy.

Support From Fans

Each year, hundreds of Layne’s fans from around the world make donations in his memory, with the intention of helping to prevent further tragic loss. Layne’s legacy lives on each day in the fund’s work and in the lives of his fans.

Tribute Concert & Benefit

THS is proud to receive support from the annual Layne Staley Tribute Weekend, held in Seattle every August. This series of concerts honors Layne and the music of Alice In Chains, along with the influential Seattle grunge sound.
